1970’s | The Sri Sathya Sai Centre of London West first started in St John’s Wood in a community hall some time in the seventies. |
Early 1980’s | The Centre then it moved to St Aidan’s Church Hall in West Ealing in early 1980. Due to families emigrating it was felt that it was too expensive to hire the hall and, instead of closing the Centre, it was moved to a member’s house in Hounslow. There it continued for 6 months. |
1986 | A move was planned in 1986 to a member’s house in Southall. At this time Bal Vikas was taking place with 10 children. During those years members took part in Easwaramma Day celebrations which used to take place in Battersea Town Hall. |
1990 | A symposium was arranged in Isleworth with Bhajans, plays and different speakers. |
1992 | After 1992 due to the large number of people attending, the Centre moved to Convent Way in Hounslow where it was very active until 1994. |
1995 | On 1st January 1995, the Centre moved to the Wellington Day Centre on Staines Road in Hounslow with approximately 15 to 20 members. Gradually a few more members came with children and Bal Vikas with 5 children was re-started. The Centre was blessed with a harmonium player and a tabla player and bhajan practice would take place regularly in a member’s home. Study Circles were also conducted once a month and various speakers were invited. |
2012 | For many years, the Centre had no children attending, then in 2012 SSE classes started again with 5 children and 2 teachers. |
2013 | It was decided that the Centre needed more space for the SSE classes and the move was made to the Heston Community School Hall. |
2015 | In 2015 we had 41 Children and 6 teachers attending the SSE classes at London West. SSEHV classes were also started in a member’s home on 14th April 2015 in Hounslow. The age group of the children was 6 – 12 years and the class was called the Good Values Club. |
